What does Sam Moon have to do with the Legacy West development in Plano?

Sam Moon Luxury Hotels

So now the Sam Moon Group is going into the luxury hotel business world as the owner developer of a RENAISSANCE HOTEL in Legacy West scheduled to open in the spring of 2017.

The business known as SAM MOON is actually owned by David and InSun Moon with their two sons Samuel and Daniel. Even though one might think the company name SAM MOON comes via the son Samuel.  The name “SAM” in the Korean language means “THREE” and as noted is the name of the eldest son Samuel.

The family needless to say made their fortune as a merchant offering a variety of purses, perfumes, luggage, home decor and other fashionable items at bargain prices. Overall there are six (6) locations of SAM MOON stores with the original being on Harry Hines Blvd in Dallas @ 635 and the other five being in Frisco, Austin and Houston.

Overall the SAM MOON GROUP has successfully diversified their businesses beyond the original ‘bargain outlet’ merchandise their so well known for. From Additional Retail Operations such as Sam Moon Home Decor,  Shopping Centers,  Coyote Ridge Golf Club in Carrollton, and actually the Renaissance Hotel in Legacy West will not be the first hotel done by SMG.

The Sam Moon Group via  their HOSPITALITY division,  already has two hotels under construction in their portfolio. Hyatt Place Alliance  in Alliance Town Center in Ft Worth (I-35) will be opening in 2017 and Metro Park in The Woodlands (off 1-45 near Houston) construction is scheduled to start on that hotel in early 2016.

SIDEBAR:  I don’t think SMG has anything to do with this story line but in today’s DMN (12.21.15) there’s a story in the Food & Culture section entitled ‘Carrollton shopping center provides a taste of KOREA’.  North Texas has quite a diverse mixture of ethnicities and KOREAN is definitely evident throughout the region. Check out the H Mart and Asian grocer in Carrollton.

TAKEAWAY:  The RENAISSANCE HOTEL will definitely be the ‘crown jewel’ of LEGACY WEST as location wise it will front Legacy Dr on the west side of DNT. Overall, it’s estimated to be an $82,000,000 hotel project with 300 rooms and will include a 26,200 square foot conference center.
