How to Design an Outdoor Serenity Room

Forget the Koi Pond and use these relaxing Zen ideas to make an outdoor serenity room all your own

Outdoor Serenity Room

Introducing: The Outdoor Serenity Room

How much do you spend on spa treatments? That’s what I thought. How about building your own spa? You know, that little oasis you can call your own. Add a structure, perhaps a fire or water feature and some Yoga Om!

Take it up a notch and add a glass wall, recessed niche candles and a fire pit to view while stone stepping in the pool. Sounds really good, doesn’t it?

So let’s start with the structure.

Outdoor Serenity Room

Of course, you should hire a professional to design an outdoor serenity room but the ideas should be 100% yours.  To get the creative juices flowing the collage above can serve as inspiration.  Here are some recommendations based on rooms I’ve seen as well as real estate trends. Naturally, all would be good for resale.

  • small & intimate space or as budget allows
  • quality high end materials: stone, wood, slate, metal & crackled glass walls for interest. (non-breakable)
  • right out the back door
  • a multi purpose room: could transition for kids play area or party space.

You could go all out here or just do the basics.

  • Flat screen TV, fireplace or fire pits
  • special lighting
  • smart home automation
  • fans (we live in Texas)
  • sound system

Here is your chance to show off your style!  The structure should compliment your housing architecture.  You can make it a modern space by having clean lines like the space above. It’s a relaxing spa retreat vibe. You could even incorporate a sauna or steam room if budget allowed. Maybe an outdoor shower when you get out of the pool. That would be nice and used a lot in Texas. Whatever you decide compliment the landscaping with the style to keep the flow and continuity of design. What ideas would you add?

  • modern or contemporary
  • traditional
  • Mediterranean
  • Zen Space
  • Sante Fe style
  • Hawaiian style
  • spa retreat

Outdoor Serenity Room

You don’t need much space. In fact this a small footprint lot. The use of hard material feels so soft with the fire pit and lighting elements. The pool lighting, exterior sconces and candles add to the sense of serenity. The horizontal fence keeps the space grounded.  Can you tell I really like this? Dusk would be the perfect time to use this space especially after a long work day. Actually anytime would be perfect for a serenity room.  Om!

Go ahead and take these inspiring ideas and design your outdoor spot for relaxing. Perfect entertaining for family and friends. The small structure serves as an additional living space right out the back door. You can get as creative as you like.
