Will Liberty Mutual be moving a huge new service center to Plano?

DBJ of 2.16.15  stated ‘ Liberty Mutual Insurance out of Boston is considering developing a huge new service center, possibly in the Plano area, that could bring 4,000 to 5,000 jobs with it.’

Boston-based insurer is purported considering leasing or owning nearly a million square feet in the Legacy West mixed-use development that construction is just now being started by the developer.  Legacy West in Plano, which will be located on the west side of DNT between Legacy Blvd and Headquarters Drive, is the same development where Toyota Motor Corp, is relocating its North American headquarters to and where FedEx Office is also building a new 265,000-square foot headquarters complex.

I always take these type of announcements with a ‘wait and see’ attitude but gut says….something is definitely going to happen and I would certainly expect Liberty Mutual management to add their corporate stamp of approval on this move in the next few months.  Time will tell …..but remember there’s a another major insurer/competitor of Liberty Mutual Insurance (State Farm Insurance) that has just started moving into their new regional office complex, City Line, in Richardson.

Knowingly there’s other factors  management  at Liberty Mutual is taking into consideration on a major move consideration like this.  The North Texas area has seen quite a bit of major mover and shaker national corporations moving to the DFW, North Dallas, Richardson, Plano, Frisco, Carrollton, Lewisville, and The Colony based on climate, cost of living, academically accredited public school systems, transportation infrastructure and don’t forget DFW International Airport which allows virtually direct business flights to all the major airports in America and foreign business centers as well and a pool of qualified potential employees if they might be looking to add local personnel in the future.

The Legacy West mixed-use development currently has two tracts available, one of 97 acres and another of 11 acres, according to Dallas-based development firm KDC.  KDC and a Dallas architecture firm are reported to be working on the Liberty Mutual project declined to comment on the matter to DBJ.

We’d certainly welcome to see the fine folks from BOSTON moving our way in the next 18 to 36 months.  There’s even a couple of Irish pubs or two in Plano’s Shops at Legacy that would make those moving here from Boston feel right at home.  Not to mention we also have some very good restaurants offering excellent seafood entries plus The East Hampton Sandwich Company where you can get a really good lobster roll sandwich .
