The Shops at Willow Bend is Coming Soon!  Getting up to speed on the latest factors involved in the renovation project of rehab, updating and new outlets that owner STARWOOD RETAIL PARTNERS out of Chicago is doing will now total $125,000,000.  Plano’s Shops at Willow Bend was the last regional enclosed malls to be built in the U.S.  Now the 15 year old center is among the first undergoing a major renovation designed to make it more than just a mall.  Starwood Retail Partners is the development firm behind this renovation and its business mantra is all about ‘building traffic to the center’

The plan for the rehab includes a pedestrian-friendly restaurant row visible from the Dallas North Tollway will go where Saks Fifth Avenue is being torn down after sitting empty since 2010.  Within this restaurant row area there will be restaurants on two side and on two levels with rooftop patios and a open air pedestrian plaza in the middle  that will lead into the enclosed shopping mall.  A nine-story, 200,000 square foot office building will be built where a Mercury restaurant once stood and the towers lobby will be connected to the mall.  Additionally a boutique hotel and entertainment venue will be on the west side of the mall.  And lastly a fitness club is being considered between Crate & Barrel and Restoration Hardware where a fountain now sits.  The plan is to have all of it done by by the end of 2018 per John Albright, VP of development at Starwood Retail Partners.

A total new face will be realized on the Shops at Willow Bend and will open in phases in 2017-2018 introducing new restaurants and retail concepts to this popular Plano destination.  Highlights include a new main entrance facing DNT; a collection of up to eight, chef-driven restaurants; a high-end health and fitness club; entertainment venues; and a seven-story, 200,000 square-foot “Class A” office tower than can accommodate approximately 800 employees.  In addition a planned expansion will include new retailers and innovative adventures for families.  Finally the mall’s interior will be remodeled throughout to reflect a more contemporary aesthetic.

And lastly the Plano Children’s Theatre will be relocating to The Shops At Willow Bend from their current location 1301 Custer Road into a new 22,000 square-foot space.  The theatre will be located on the upper of the mall near Dillard’s.  It will include five rehearsal studios, a dance studio, two main stage theatres, two black box theaters and a set-build space and costume shop.  Once open the theatre will offer a full program of art, drama, dance, vocal classes and performance for children ages three to 18.  Additionally, PCT will also offer advanced training for career-bound students, therapeutic dance and a season Repertory Theatre Company productions.

TAKEAWAY: With this expansion The Shops at Willow Bend will be a unique entertainment and shopping district for all of North Dallas, Plano, Frisco, Carrollton, Lewisville and The Colony.
